Runner up/2nd place 'European Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2017'
So proud that my image „When the ice melts…“ has won the second place/runner up in the category landscape at the 2017 edition of 'European wildlife photographer of the year' (GDT)! And especially, that I still seem to have pictures in my archive, which can take part in this summit, certainly because I have been very limited for the last years with photography.
This picture was made at the Aletsch Glacier in 2009 and shows a small glacial cave where the melting water flows through the ice. Shortly thereafter, the cave disappeared, and not long ago parts of the area were closed down: as a result of the retracting ice and permafrost due to the global warming, the rocks have become unstable.
